Brentwood shortstop Bryan Reynolds, a switch-hitter who hit .447 with 28 RBI and three homers last season as a junior, has committed to Vanderbilt.

“I love the coaches, and I’ve always wanted to go there,” Reynolds said. “It’s been my dream school. I’ve had some other offers, but Vandy stood out, and that’s the one I wanted.”

Columbia pitcher Hayden Stone and Tullahoma pitcher Jordan Sheffield also committed to Vanderbilt. Stone, Sheffield and Reynolds were Tennessee teammates as they won the Sun Belt Classic for the second straight year in Oklahoma in June.

Reynolds hit .449 as a left-handed hitter and .444 as a righty. He is likely to play outfield or one of the corner spots in the infield with the Commodores.

“I’ve been switch-hitting in the cage with my dad since I was like, 10,” Reynolds said. “I did it about half the year my sophomore year and then my junior year I did it (the full season.) I actually like left-handed a little bit more than right-handed. I’m naturally right-handed.”

Brentwood coach Brian Popovich played for Vanderbilt.

“Bryan is a legitimate five-tool guy,” Popovich said. “He’s one of the few guys I’ve coached to have so many raw tools. (Vanderbilt) Coach (Tim) Corbin likes athletic players. A lot of his players are former shortstops and center fielders who can play other positions.”
