Tennessee off to 8-0 start at Sun Belt tournament

Tennessee's Jordan Sheffield, a Vanderbilt commitment, rounds third base against Mississippi on Friday.

Tennessee, which has 12 baseball players from the Midstate on its roster, won its first eight games at the Sun Belt tournament in Oklahoma.

The defending champion has outscored its opponents 74-21.

Tennessee beat Mississippi 9-0 in Friday’s opener, allowing only two hits. Columbia’s Hayden Stone earned the win.

Tennessee recorded another shutout in a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Blue later in the day as Garner Ryan fired a three-hitter.

Tennessee used a 12-hit attack to beat Oklahoma Gold on Saturday. Brentwood Academy’s Will Haynie hit a two-run homer and Tullahoma’s Justus Sheffield went 3-for-3, leading Tennessee to an 11-1 win over Canada in five innings later in the day.

Tullahoma’s Jordan Sheffield hit a two-run homer, leading Tennessee to a 7-1 win over Arizona on Sunday.

Erupting for 13 runs in the fifth inning, Tennessee rolled to a 19-2 win over Colorado on Monday as Father Ryan’s Andrew Towns earned the win.

Tennessee scored one run in the eighth inning to beat Missouri 8-7 later in the day.

Rallying from a two-run deficit, Haynie hit a two-run homer with two outs in the seventh on his 18th birthday to give Tennessee an 8-7 win over Georgia on Tuesday. Dale Burdick scored on Corey Herndon’s sacrifice fly to make it 7-6.
